7-Day Belize Itinerary: What to Do, Where to Stay & How to Plan (2026 Guide)
What To Do
- How To Plan
If you’re planning a trip to Belize, one question always comes up: how do you experience the best of Belize in just one week?
After exploring the country myself, moving between jungle towns, Maya sites, local food spots, and coastal escapes, I realized something important: Belize isn’t about rushing. It’s about flowing through experiences.
This 7-day Belize itinerary is built from real experiences I or the team have experienced, what guests consistently love, and what truly gives you that Authentically Belize feeling.
Why Visit Belize?
Belize is one of the few places where you can:
- Explore ancient Maya ruins
- Swim in jungle rivers and waterfalls
- Experience rich culture and food
- Relax on Caribbean beaches
All within a few hours of each other.
From my perspective, what makes Belize stand out isn’t just the destinations, it’s how real and unfiltered everything feels.

Day 1: Arrival + Settle into San Ignacio
What to Do:
- Arrive via Belize City
- Travel to Cayo District (~2 hours)
- Walk around town + visit the San Ignacio Market
Where to Stay:
- Local guesthouses (authentic + affordable)
- Jungle lodges for nature immersion
My Experience:
Landing and heading straight into Cayo changed everything. The pace slowed down instantly. Sitting by the Macal River that first evening, I realized this trip wasn’t about checking boxes, it was about being present.

Day 2: Maya History at Xunantunich
What to Do:
- Cross the hand-cranked ferry
- Climb El Castillo temple
- Explore the ruins
Cost:
- ~$25 BZD entry
- Tour: $50–$90 USD
Guide Needed?
Optional (recommended for history)
My Experience:
Standing at the top of Xunantunich, you can see both Belize (Benque Viejo) and Guatemala (Melchor De Mencos) it hits you. You’re standing on something ancient, something powerful. It’s one of those moments you don’t rush.
Day 3: Adventure at Actun Tunichil Muknal (ATM Cave)
What to Do:
- Jungle hike + river crossings
- Swim into the cave
- Explore ancient Maya ceremonial chambers
Cost:
- $120–$180 USD
Guide Needed?
Mandatory!!!
My Experience:
This was hands down one of the most intense and unforgettable things I’ve done. Swimming into a cave, walking through history, seeing artifacts untouched, it felt surreal. The Crystal Maiden alone leaves you speechless. She was the main reason I went, apart from my guests telling me how much I was missing out.
Day 4: Mountain Pine Ridge (Waterfalls & Nature)
What to Do:
- Rio On Pools
- Big Rock Falls
- Scenic drives
Cost:
- Free–$10 USD
Guide Needed?
Optional
My Experience:
This day felt like a reset. Cool water, fresh air, and no rush. Jumping into Big Rock Falls after the hike, that’s one of those core Belize memories you carry with you.

Day 5: Travel to the Coast (Placencia or Islands)
Options:
- Placencia (laid-back beach town)
- Ambergris Caye (island vibe)
- Hopkins (Beachside Village)
My Experience:
The shift from jungle to ocean is wild. One day you’re deep in caves, next day you’re watching the sunset over the Caribbean.
Day 6: Ocean Adventures
What to Do:
- Snorkeling or diving the reef
- Island hopping
- Relax on the beach
Cost:
- $80–$150 USD
My Experience:
The water here doesn’t even feel real. Clear, calm, and full of life. Floating above the reef, it’s peaceful in a way that’s hard to explain.

Day 7: Slow Morning + Departure
What to Do:
- Relax
- Grab a local breakfast
- Head back to Belize City
My Experience:
The last day always hits different. You realize how much you’ve experienced in just a week, and how much more there is.
Estimated Cost for 7 Days
- Budget: $800–$1,200 USD
- Mid-range: $1,200–$2,000 USD
